Our Mom’s Fight Against Colorectal Cancer

Mom was released from the hospital

Mom was released from the hospital today!  Unfortunately, they never did confidently find the source of the bleeding.  But the bleeding stopped 2 days ago, the day after she checked in.  Now it sounds like they suspect her stoma (colostomy).  Several of the medicines Mom is taking cause thrombocytopenia (low blood platelet levels).   I always thought that condition was called hemophelia but apparently they are different.  Platelets are needed to clot the blood so the low levels cause easy bleeding.  They think that in combination with an irritated stoma could have done the trick.  The doctor wants mom to schedule an upper GI tract exam for next week just to rule anything else up there out.  I’m glad she was able to go home but still a little unsettled that they never found out anything concrete.
